The Plant Mechanic is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of production and plant equipment at Portillo’s Food Service where we cook, package and ship to Portillo’s locations across the country. |
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES |
· Ensure timely completion of all maintenance tasks. · Respond to unplanned downtime and emergency requests. · When responding to crisis calls will always arrive at the scene with basic tools and equipment necessary to perform work. · Responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production and support equipment such as HV/AC, boilers, air compressors, refrigeration system, mixers, processing and packaging equipment · Ensure operation of plant machinery utilizing both electrical and mechanical skills to troubleshoot equipment and by completing preventive maintenance requirements; Controls downtime by ascertaining needed repairs and parts replacement, and completing repairs in timely fashion · Performs preventive and predictive maintenance on mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, compressors, exhaust fans, blowers, packaging, slicing, equipment and conveyors as well as wastewater. · Interface with outside equipment and service providers. · Maintain spare parts inventory (MRO) and order needed parts. · Ensure that maintenance activities comply with GMPs and USDA requirements. · Identify and communicate to management, opportunities for improvement in physical plant, processing operations and downtime reduction. · Working knowledge and skills in operating a variety of small hand tools and devices used in general mechanical maintenance operations. · Maintains various activity records and logs. · Observe equipment or machinery while in operation to detect malfunctions. · Disassemble mechanical equipment, identify faulty/worn parts, replace, reassemble, and test. · Other tasks as assigned by management. |
ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS |
· This position reports to the Plant Manager and interacts with outside vendors. |
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS |
Minimum Work Experience, Qualification, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities |
· High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment; or 4 years’ direct experience in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance environment. · · Possess the ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors. · Experience in mechanical and electrical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, AC/servo drives, HMI’s and PLCs · Ability to read, write the following: work orders, instructions, daily reports and machine manuals. · Can understand and follow oral and written instructions. |
